RE: Memberships

For some, they work out great and for others they don't. It doesn't work for us right now while still working. The main thing is to buy a resale not a new more expensive one direct from the home park. Hopefully, someone can send you to a resale site.

RE: Royals Info ?

I would also contact the factory. We just took a tour earlier this month to look at the Royals. They also have a Travel Club.

RE: Camping near Andrews Air Force Base

Duncan's doesn't have many 50 amp sites. They tried to put us up in one with no sewer. Didn't like the idea of using a honey wagon every week to empty for the next 18 weeks, so we went over to Cherry Hill.

RE: Another Assault on RV Parking

We spent a few months last year living/working in Prince Geo. County, MD. It was hard to negotiate some of the narrow residential streets in the area with our F450. Parking in the street was quite common all over MD. We went by one City/County Park where all the vehicles shut down one of the lanes on the 4-lane road. Driving the F450 through downtown Annapolis was really a treat. No one used crosswalks and would step right out in front of our truck. I've never heard that an urban street residential or commercial as the proper place for a 5 year old to ride her bike. Parks or sidewalks are for the walkers and joggers and 5 year olds. Streets are for vehicles.

RE: Early 20s Considering Doing This

When we were young and foolish, we thought the only path to wealth was Real Estate. Then we were hit with real life. We had children, built, remodeled, sold homes. But found that only Home Depot or the Real Estate agents make any money. Now, we found for us, we make more money on the road fulltime than both of our combined incomes in our old life...

RE: Parked or Travelling

When you see no truck, maybe it's off at work! But it's all a matter of preference and driving style. I like having room in the RV and a large basement. Since we stay at least 3 mos anywhere, the 5er makes more sense to us. It's easy to pack up, secure everything and move the 5er to our next location. We left OH on Fri, stopped one night in KY and now in AL for a few months.

RE: Easiest way to locate monthly rates on CG's?

I've been wishing for the last few years for some shortcuts. The ones in the directories aren't the only ones out there. We also find that once we arrive, someone has vacated a nicer spot just in time. Or the price may change since we may get a better site for just a few $'s more.

RE: Final Resting Place (a little long - sorry)

Scatter us to the wind and water..... That's what we intend to do for ourselves. Preferably, when one goes, the other keeps the ashes until one of our children or grandchildren can take us both to our special spot. When our youngest son died and we had him cremated, I found it's not that easy to decide where to spread them. Partly because there are regulations and restrictions. We carry his urn with us "just in case" we find the perfect spot on our travels. So far, we haven't been to it yet.

RE: Hydronic Zone Propane Heating

I noticed this as a 2009 option on their website already. I've been making a spreadsheet for FT units for a couple of months in anticipation of driving up to Indiana. We went last week to take a couple of tours. But since Newmar has an age limit of 8, we couldn't go through theirs this trip with the GD. DRV (Doubletree) is also upgrading their 2009 units with even better features and upgraded insulation with 2 furnaces. Our needs are definitely for year round living. But I find it less important to keep warm in winter than cool in summer. But then it's summer now, so might feel differently depending on where we get sent this winter. :S

RE: So you still want ot go fulltime? Are you nuts?

Personally, I've known more people that continue to work after retirement because they Want To not because they Have To. We've always considered the same thing for us. It will supplement our retirement and DH will be able to work as much or as little as he wants eventually. Like Bubba's wife, DH has an occupation that pays him more to stay "on the road", so we took advantage of it long before SS kicks in. Balancing traveling, building retirement savings can get challenging. But like anything, it all depends on your attitude and aptitude. Sometimes you have to get creative and figure out a better way to do it. Whether eventually we're living in a condo or a double wide, we'd like to keep an RV for work and play. But we honestly don't know what we'll be doing in 20 years. Life is constantly changing our plans.

RE: Motorhome Magazine

We were just up at Elkhart and visited their upstairs library at the RV/MH Hall of Fame. They may have use for them!

RE: Follow up to my bib overall post

I went to a Church Wedding in GA for a coworker. Her Grandpa wore his brand new dark blue denim bib overalls. He didn't feel out of place at all.

RE: Taking 91-year old parents to Washington DC: Advice?

You need to get a map of DC. They have great ones online or at Cherry Hill Park. We enjoyed taking the Trolley tours just to get orientated. With DS/DIL, we took one where we could get on and off depending on how far we wanted to walk. We started at Union Station. Got off at the Lincoln Memorial and climbed up all the steps, but it also has an elevator. It's across from the reflecting pool. Quite a view. From there, it's a short walk to the Korean Mem on the right, Viet Nam Mem on the left. It's a little further to the WWII Mem, but from there it wasn't far to the Wash monument. Museums are grouped fairly well together, but we only made it to a couple of those. For us being outdoors at the Memorials was the most interesting part of the trip. Trolley Tour

RE: Washer and Dryer

We had a Majestic brand on a previous 5er. We rarely could use it and it was a big disappointment. But the Kenmore apt sizes that DoubleTree puts in their unit are great.

RE: Streets and Trips Exit numbers

I'm still trying to learn our 2007 S&T version. I only use it for planning so far. The circles are Exits and Mile post #'s, at least on our map it shows two sets of #'s. Am just glad they renamed all the Exits a few years ago, so it's easier for me to follow along as the Navigator even with the GPS.

RE: Closets and Hangars

Walmart or Target carries the smaller plastic childrens sizes. They don't work great for adult sz clothing. I've found if I turn them around, they fit better. I think our rack isn't centered properly. But I also have to watch which hangers I buy. Some are oversized and definitely don't fit well no matter what.

RE: Some times you have to wonder....Frivilous lawsuit??

Have heard this one before. The real moron that's true is the guy who sat on his RV toilet and fell through the floor into the black tank. His toilet had a slow leak and weakened the floor. The guy was a FTer in his 5er. He had the same year or a little older than our 2005 5er. He weighed over 300 lbs but that didn't matter. He sued, he won, but it's been a couple of years, so am not sure what he got for his trouble.

RE: CG near Alpharetta, GA

I'd recommend Twin Lakes. It's closer to Alpharetta and if you don't need sewer (they have a dump station), you might get right on the lake. They don't have bath houses, but that's what the RV is for. Twin Lakes

RE: New RV Court Advice

Wow, you work fast! :B Country settings are so much more relaxing even if it means a longer drive to services or jobsite. We only require a southern exposure and FHU's to be happy. We tried to stay in a CG in VA on a 200 ac family farm long term, but they didn't have any FHU 50 amp sites for us.

RE: Interesting data about RV Net Users

Interesting. BUT... How can there be more people with graduate school education than those with college education? It is sort of strange, but may be an error. I clicked on the demographics tab. The pie chart there shows 19% for grad school, 39% for college, 41% for no college while the bar graph shows more or less the opposite numerical effect. Goofy. :) Lynn The way I read the bar chart was stats for all internet users. The Pie was us RVnetters. But then what would I know since I'm in the minority, a female with no college degrees and come to think of it no income. BTW: I didn't see any dark blue for "addicts" under monthly traffic. Can't believe that one. :S
